Cuando preguntaba si me iria bien lo decia xk si no he leido mal arch esta optimizado para la arquitectura i686 cierto? y mi procesador es x86_64.
Ahora mismo estoy en kubuntu x86_64 y no va todo lo fluido ke deberia con el pc que tengo (E6420, 2 GB de RAM, GMA 950,etc...)

Personalmente, la veo perfecta para todo el mundo, tanto como para un novato, pero con mucho interes (imprescindible) como para un gentooza de toda la vida.
Si es para tus alumnos, y les encanta el mundo de linux, trastear y aprender, creo que les encantará. Curva de aprendizaje moderada, y muy soportable, sobre todo con la enorme wiki que tiene delante.
Como nota personal, digo por enésima vez, que en mi caso es la primera distribución linux que me instalé en toda mi vida, viniendo de windows, y ningún problema, me encanta.
