ince the announcement of C4Evas DVD Burner FW I thought I would start a thread about the rebadged iHASx24 B drives from ASUS, as the Lite-On badged drives may become harder to find.
Buying an ASUS badged drive also guarantees you get a Mediatek chipset based drive (A or B series). Whereas buying a Lite-On drive, you could also get a NEC chipset drive (Y series, rebadged Sony Optiarc AD-724xS/AD-726xS)
List of rebadged ASUS iHASx24 drives:
Possible B series drive:
DRW-24B1ST = iHAS324 A or B series drive
DRW-24B1LT = iHAS424 A or B series drive
Guaranteed B series drive:
DRW-24B3ST = iHAS524 B series drive
DRW-24B3LT = iHAS624 B series driveNow the A series drives are no longer produced so your chances of getting an A series drives from a retailer such as Newegg is slim. Looking at reviews on Newegg for the DRW-24B1ST, there is one dated back to March 2011 reporting a B series drive.
Crossflashing ASUS DRW-24BxST/LT B to Lite-On iHASx24 B (quoted from C0deKing
@myce.com)
To flash:
1/ Backup your firmware and eeprom.
2/ Use the latest Flash Utility and load the B series firmware (EXE file on my site) when prompted, to flash the drive to the new firmware.
3/ Use the latest Eeprom Utility convert drive feature to enable the firmware in the drive.
4/ Depower the drive/system and restart.
Utilities and Lite-On iHASx24 B firmware can be found here:
