- yeah practice time was short this weekend. i got 9 laps in the porsche cayman before qualifying. those were my first 9 laps ever in a cayman.
fortunately i have 1000+ laps here haha. sucks when red flags come out every practice session. actually, there was a red flag in every session this weekend, practice 1&2, ST qualifying, and the race.
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/50/3319866.page#9052466- Going off topic here though, i know
i use iRacing to test before every real life race, either it be IMSA Conti, or the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series,
it helps a ton to re-learn the tracks i haven't been to in a while, and the new tracks i've never been too. Just can't quite find a car that matches up perfectly the the Lambo, i have a ton of GT3 cars to pick from though
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/25/3319081.page#9037717- i absolutely love iRacing, im not racing as much as i use to on here, since i haven'e been home much, but i certainly use it before every single race weekend.
this past season, i've never been to 6 of the 12 tracks that was on the Conti schedule. I did probably 250-500 laps on iRacing before i left to go to that race weekend, and once i got there, it was like i've been there for years. honestly without using iRacing before getting to a new track, i would be lost, and it would eat up a ton of valuable track time which is crucial for car setup instead of learning a new track.
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/75/3291941.page#8626319- exactly. to use another example, this past weekend me and my co-driver have never been to COTA before. we both
only got 15 laps (half of those in the wet) before the race started, which is very little track time before a pro race. granted, i practiced on iRacing for hours and hours before arriving, so i knew the track pretty well. but still struggled in the race due to lack of real track time.
also, as said before there is no way to compare the two. There really is no way to feel the same amount of G-forces using a sim, no way to feel what 115+ degree temps feel like during an hour long stint. i mean unless you crank up the heat for an hour stint in your bed room. i love iRacing as much as the next guy, but anyone who thinks its the same, is just silly.
http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/25/3274982.page#8392492- i didn't read this whole thread, but i'll chip in here. i know i feel as if i can't drive as hard on here, as i can and do in real life. also the tire wear is pretty minimal on here as well. but i know racing in a pro series in real life (IMSA CTSCC)
practice time is pretty low depending on certain weekends, and you really have no time to learn a track if you've never been to one before. Example, last year i made my debut at Laguna Seca (as we are racing here this weekend with TUDOR), and i had
only 8 laps of practice before qualifying started. Granted we did blow a motor in the second practice session that cost us track time. But doing probably 500 laps on iRacing really, really helped me know the track to a tee, and once i got to Laguna it felt like i've been there multiple times.
